Steve McClaren will not come down hard on Aleksandar Mitrovic after his second yellow card in six days.
The Serbia striker was booked within seconds of his Premier League debut against Southampton and he picked up another caution after 90 seconds against Swansea when he clashed with Neil Taylor.
When asked whether he would take action, McClaren said: “Not really, we can’t take that away from him, it’s part of his game. I think, like everything, we have to learn emotional control. We all have to do that – that’s in challenges and in our football. Mitrovic will keep learning.
“I don’t think you can judge us today – we didn’t learn anything at all about the team.”
McClaren feels that yellow cards have been handed out particularly quickly to his side. He thinks Mitrovic’s two booking are simply a case of him trying to make an impression.
He said: “They (referees) have been a bit sharp with the yellows. That’s how he plays and how he comes on and wants to make his mark. It was another harsh booking.”
